    Week 09 reflections.

I enjoyed molding and casting week and I still enjoy it today. To improve the circuit that I had from the previous weeks I needed a physical interface to really answer the questions I had during my thesis development about the interaction human-technology. At that point, I wanted to recreate a soft body that is “commonly” used for hearing sounds. I decided to cast an ear. To do that, at the beginning I 3D printed a negative of the ear, because I wanted to have the positive in silicone, but I keep trying, and after I did the ear to cast it in silicone and have the possibility to have ard ears also. In the photographs, you can see both ways to get a hard or soft possitive.

As a personal exploration, I keep pushing the molding and casting techniques and I did some lifecasting models: feet, lips, fingers, and finally another ear. (I still need to do a hand).

    Finals reflections:
I never cast before, or at least, not that much, but I really enjoyed this technique as a way to have nice finishing pieces with so many different materials. The only thing that I only tried once and I want to keep exploring is casting with biomaterials. During Challenge III, I tried with keyboard keys but the material shrink so much in comparison to silicone.
